Have You Ever Wanted to be Spiderman? Here’s your chance!

January 27, 2020

Spiderman is one of the greats that needs no introduction.  Since his inception in 1962, he has captivated the imaginations of both adults and children alike.  I remember when I was a kid, my friends and I would play superheroes almost every recess. Whoever played Spiderman would ball up some string and throw it at an object, half hoping that by some miracle it would stick and give them web shooting powers. The character’s influence did not stop at the playground. Throughout my life, I have seen countless pieces of Spiderman merchandise plastered anywhere and everywhere. Lunchboxes being toted by elementary schoolers, posters on gym walls, pajamas on gamer girls, and t shirts on people of all ages and backgrounds. But real life web shooters?  Sadly only a far off dream……….until now.

One savvy inventor has turned his love for the franchise and Spiderman’s superpowers into a reality.  What is even better is that us mere mortals are able to purchase these IRL web shooters on Etsy. How do they work, you ask?  According to the product’s website, “The Web-12 incorporates powerful neodymium magnets and spring projectiles”. It appears that the neodymium magnets are at the end of fishing line and can stick onto any magnetic surface.    However, with great power comes great responsibility and the creator warns to “never point at another sentient being”. While that probably counts out using them to fight super villains (especially ones with pacemakers). I’m still excited that I’ll finally be able to get the remote from across the room without getting up!

See them in action!

I personally think that Stan Lee would approve of his fantastical vision becoming a reality.  Pre-orders for the May 2020 drop have already started, and you can check them out here:

I’m keeping this one in my back pocket the next time I need a gift for a Marvel fan in a pinch. With the Spiderman crossover, Venom 2, hitting theaters in October 2020 and Spiderman 3 coming out in July 2021, I expect these to be a hot item.

Having standard showtimes for films was not common Having standard showtimes for films was not common until 1960. Previously most films would just play on a loop, and people could enter at any time. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho required that people watch from the beginning to the end and made showtimes more standard.
